Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge with deep respect the traditional custodians of lutruwita Tasmania, Aboriginal land and waters.

We acknowledge the spiritual, cultural, and historical significance of this land and the continuing cultural practices and knowledge of the palawa people. We pay our respects to their elders, past, present, and emerging, and express our gratitude for their custodianship of these lands for countless generations. Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal land.

James Wilson

Field Labs is a small, award winning architecture practice based in Hobart, led by Director and architect, James Wilson.

James studied his Bachelor of Environmental Design (UTAS) in Hobart, TAS, and completed his Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) (Deakin) in Geelong, while working in Melbourne, VIC. Following this, James was a founding Director at Room 11 for a decade, before starting Field Labs in 2015.

James enjoys the opportunities and challenges of practicing architecture in Tasmania. Key to this practice is designing liveable, functional and enjoyable environments that respond uniquely to our topography and climate.

We understand that the most powerful designs often arise from a place of clarity and purpose. The aim of James’ practice is to simplify, to listen, to work with good people, and enjoy the process of creating great design outcomes for his clients.

By lending an attentive ear to our clients, we ensure that every project is a collaborative journey.
